Update on Sandy!

Sandy is now LUCY!

We have renamed her "Lucy" to which she responds heartily. When we used "Sandy" she would purposely look away or ignore us -- very strange...but she seems to love Lucy (as WE do!) and comes readily, wagging her tail...but ONLY to me. She does not like ANY men and has yet to come to my husband, Bruce or son, Garrett. They're taking their time with her and we have hopes she'll overcome this fear. She's very curious and wants to come but is so timid and fearful. Even with me, she runs away and then slows to a low-bellied crawl for me to pick her up...sad.

She is an absolutely wonderful dog, however, and very smart! She has totally mastered our little doggie door and "helps herself" to the backyard whenever she likes. Very well potty trained with few messes. She barks at the door and already "runs the house," sleeping with us every night in our bed (on MY side!) and snuggling so sweetly. She has allowed Bruce to give her showers and seems to really like the warm water.

YES! I get LOTS of kisses and a wonderful wagging tail! We are working on obedience and leash, although it's been very cold for regular walks. She is helping to fill that gaping, painful hole left by the passing of my little Schnauzers, and I'm grateful Ginger found her for us!

Please extend my thanks to B.J. and her family for helping her make the transition to real dog life. It must have been very difficult for them to part with such a sweet dog.
We are grateful!

Update on Mugsy!

Mugsy was a wonderful addition to my little family. He has been so instrumental in helping my other rescue Molly (whom I got through NMDR in November of 2009) come out of her shell even more than she had. Attached is a picture of them at my sister’s house on Thanksgiving waiting to go for our after dinner walk. With 8 people and 4 dogs all on a walk together it was quite a site to see.

Happy New Year to you and everyone else at NMDR!
Keep up the wonderful work you do!

Update on Sundae!

video

Sundae is now Sunny!!

When my parents first met me, I was so scared that I was shaking terribly and hiding under the wash basin at the Vail Doggie Day Care and Spa, where I was being fostered by Holly.  A year later, I am such a happy little girl and my parents couldn't be happier to have me in their home.  I am so well behaved.  My parents were told I wasn't potty trained, but I'm so smart I learned after only 1 accident in the house.  I'm still a little shy around strangers, but I go to day care twice a week and I love it so much that I whine all morning until I get there!  I also love to play "chase" in the backyard; my parents chase me around and try to catch me but I know they never will.  Even better when there is lots of snow on the ground; I love to bounce around on the snow like a bunny. or a little dog, I sure do love the outdoors and hiking!!  Perhaps my favorite thing in the whole world is snuggling.  For a dog who was so scared of people at first, I love to snuggle more than any other dog.  I always want to be on mom or dad's lap, and a belly rub is an added bonus.  I'm so grateful to have such a wonderful home now, but my parents are the luckiest of all because I bring so much joy to their lives and am just the cutest, smartest, well-behaved dog ever.

Thanks so much to the Mill Dog Rescue and Holly at Vail Doggie Day Care and Spa...we love our Sunny!
